ASK AUNT MARY-BEAUTY

June 30th, 2011 | By admin

Models in magazines look so perfect, but how do we know how many of the pictures have been touched up to make them look perfect. Everyone has flaws, even the movie stars, singers, and models. They all have some little flaw.

When I was a teen, many years ago, I remember how we all wanted to be perfect. Well, I wasn’t. I was so skinny my bones stuck out. I do wish I were that skinny again, but alas, having three children helped me to gain weight. Of course, liking good food hasn’t helped any. (more…)

GOOD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE-DORCAS

June 29th, 2011 | By admin

by Tammy Snyder

Dorcas was a good girl. In fact, God wants us to know immediately that she is a disciple.

At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas.(Acts9:36-42).

It says she was a woman of good works and charitable deeds. She was obviously adored because when she became sick and died they were so heartbroken that they immediately, upon hearing Peter was near by at Joppa, sent for him. When Peter arrived he saw the widows weeping as they showed him the work she did – the tunics and garments she made while with them. Peter must have seen the importance Dorcas had to her friends and saw the love they felt for her because he was moved to help. He put the women out and after kneeling and praying, he commanded her to rise then presented her alive to the widows. (more…)

BAD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE-JEZEBEL

June 27th, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

This will be our last bad girl and then we will go to the good girls. Today we will look at the worst woman in the Bible, Jezebel. She was a rotten mess.

Jezebel was married to Ahab, king of Judah. Her father was king of Sidon. That was a good strategy because no father would fight a country where his daughter was queen. Ahab was very crafty in that, he married his family to spouses whose father was king of a warring country.

Ahab began building idols for Baal, which is the God Jezebel worshiped. He encouraged the people to worship Baal instead of Jehovah. He did this because these were the gods Jezebel worshiped. One of their teaching was sacrificing their children to these idols.

BAD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE, DELILAH

June 24th, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

Delilah was a Philistine. They worshiped idols, not the true God. Samson saw her and as we would say today, he fell madly in love with her.

Samson was not the run of the mill Israelite. He was a judge and a Nazirite from birth.(Judges 13:3-5) His mother did not drink wine, or similar drink, nor did she eat unclean meat. No razor was to touch him.

He was also the strongest man that ever was. You can read about his life in Judges 13-16.

The Philistines were angry with him because he had done so many things to them. He wanted to deliver Israel from their hands. Now, Delilah comes on the scene. (more…)

HOLD YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE

June 23rd, 2011 | By admin

by Aunt Mary

Last night I noticed what close friends our teens are at church. They seem to delight in each others company. Everyone loves to have friends like that. I know I do.

Let me tell you a story about one of my friends. We met two years ago, first on the internet and then later in person. She is one of the finest Christian ladies I know. She has also faced one of the hardest battles I have even known. Through all this, she had kept her faith in God.

November 1, 2010 was supposed to be a good day for her. Her first published book would be released. She was so excited and I was excited for her. She was living her dream of being a published author. It was wonderful until she began having horrible headaches. Her book was released that day, but she was also told she had T-Cell Lymphoma, a deadly disease. Immediately the doctors started her on chemotherapy.

The chemo was horrible. She lost all of her hair. She was not able to do very much and was sick a lot. During all this time, the doctors talked to her about stem cell transplants. When the chemo was over, the doctors started her on radiation. Finally a date for the bone marrow transplant was set. (more…)

SHUFFLING YOUR TIME

June 22nd, 2011 | By admin

One thing I have heard teens say is that they don’t have enough time to do certain things. Hey, you’re not any different from the rest of us. We start time shuffling early in our life. I’m writing this at night because I have another blog to write in the morning, so I have to shuffle time. Instead of writing this article, I could be re-writing the book I recently finishhed, or writing on a book I started recently. I could be reading a book a friend of mine wrote, or I could be watching television. So we all shuffle our time.

What is your time like? Would you like twenty-six or thirty hours in your day? We all received twenty-four hours, but how do you use them? I know I’ve written on this once before, but this is a different take. (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY, HOMOSEXUALITY

June 21st, 2011 | By admin

A lot of teens and adults, claim they are homosexual. Some will even say they were born that way. Some do it to be cool. Some want to do it to be different. Let me tell you, you are not born that way, it is not cool, and it’s not good to be that different.

When the world was created, God created man and woman. Not man and man or woman and woman. Genesis 1:26-27, it says, “…male and female He created them.” God said it was good after he created them. If he thought homosexuality was good, why didn’t he create two males or two females. He knew a man and a woman could procreate.

I hate to tell you this, but a homosexual is not born that way. They are taught. There are people out there that love to do evil and love to lure people into their web. Don’t let them tell you it’s all right. Let me give you some examples of what the Bible says.

God gave Moses the Law in Leviticus 18. In verse 22, it says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a female. It is an abomination.” That means even in the Old Testament it was wrong, a sin, an abomination, the worse. In Genesis 19:5, Lot had encountered homosexuals in Sodom (that’s where the term sodomy came from). The angels had come to Sodom to get Lot and his family out. That night, the men of the city asked Lot to bring the men/angels out so they should know them carnally.

These are two examples in the Old Testament. They were also punished if they were caught committing homosexuality. We go again to Leviticus when the Law was given from God. In verse 13, “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” It was such a horrible sin that God wanted to get rid of it by putting them to death. (more…)

By an anonymous Christian Teen

I recently played a softball game for another team in my league. There is a girl on that team that doesn’t get along with me very well. We’ll just say, we’re not the best of friends. Anyway, while we play, we lay our bats up against the fence on each side of home plate so that they will be easy to access when we get up to bat. During this game, I had my bat laying up against the fence and for some reason, everyone seemed to be hitting my bat when they were getting up to bat and throwing the last persons bat over by the fence. My bat was not cheap and could possibly be ruined if it continued to be hit by the other bats. My mom had said something to me and my dad about my bat getting hit and told me to bring my bat in next time so it would not continue to be hit by the other bats. Apparently this girl heard my mom say something about it.

So, the next time she walked by the fence on the outside, she purposefully pushed my bat head so that it would fall down right in front of my parents and grandparents. I had not known this happened until after the game and we were all in the car. I, not knowing this had just happened, turned and smiled at this girl as we walked off. Once my mom told me what she had done, I was furious. It was behavior that I could have expected from her, but I was still appalled at how disrespectful she had acted. (more…)

RAIN

June 17th, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

Did you realize it never rained until the flood? God sent a mist to wet the soil. Can you imagine how the people felt when the first rain started falling?

Genesis 2:4-6 explains that a mist came up from the earth to wet the soil so the vegetation could grow. The mist was over the whole face of the earth. They had no need for rain. God took care of everything.

Then men became so wicked that he had to do something. This was his judgement on mankind for their wickedness. God did save eight people, Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives. They all entered the ark and were saved from the flood waters.

Noah was six hundred years old when he entered the ark and it began raining. To us, that is a very old man. I’ve never know of anyone now living that long. The people of the earth had made fun of him for building the ark when they had never seen rain. (more…)

THE WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE

June 15th, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

This week we’re having Vacation Bible School and the theme is Creation/Evolution. The adult teacher is outstanding and I have enjoyed the class so much. I thought today I would write a little about creation. First let me say, I am no expert.

In Genesis 1:1-31 we read about the six days of creation. I did say SIX, not millions of years as the evolutionist would have us believe. These were six, twenty-four hours. Just like we have a twenty-four hour today, God did this in 144 hours. It’s hard for me to understand, but God can do all things.

At the end of the six days, God saw that it was good and he rested. So, what had He made? The earth, the hemisphere, the sun, the stars, animals, trees, plants, dinosaurs, man, the moon, and everything in between. He made our bodies the way they are now with fingers and toes, vertebrates, muscles, blood vessels, all our organs, everything.

I look at my hands as I type this. How does my fingers know what letter to type on the computer? God mad us a brain that can function with our fingers and every part of our bodies. When we are cold, we have goose bumps and when we are hot, we sweat to cool off. Although, ladies in the South, glisten. We don’t sweat! Seriously, watch how your knees move when you walk and you don’t fall down.

Did I say dinosaurs? That’s right, they were made along with man. Too many artifacts have been recovered to doubt that. There is a crypt in England that has a dinosaur carved on the lid. If they were extent at that time, how did someone know about them in the 1100-1400′s? After all, it was in the 1800′s before anyone found a dinosaur bone. Someone had to see them to draw that dinosaur on the lid of that crypt.

We were on vacation recently and became very interested in the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island, GA. It’s amazing that those sea turtles have very small brains, but large tear glands. Why? They need to wash their eyes constantly to keep the salt out of them. God knew that, it didn’t evolve. How to they know to go back to the island where they were hatched to lay their eggs? God designed them that way. They even make different tracts on the sand. God made each of the seven species different in some ways, but He was the designer.

There is no way an ape, monkey, or chimpanzee could have invented this computer I work on. Only man has the intelligence to do that. I am so thankful for the man who did that and the man who invented knee replacements. I have recently had both knees replaced and someone invented the knees that I use today. My doctor used the mentality God gave him to learn how to take out my old worn out knees and put new ones in.

It is up to us to use our bodies that God created in a way to praise Him. Abusing your body is wrong. Remember God made you and He loves you. Honor Him.
