Who Wants A Dirty Rose?

July 29th, 2011 | By admin

The story is told (author & origin unknown) of a father who had six daughters. He determined to teach the girls a lesson on morals. He knew the necessity of impressing Bible values upon the mind of each daughter as an individual.

As he returned home from work one evening, he stopped by a local flower shop and bought seven of the most beautiful roses in the shop. There would be one of each daughter, with one left over.

At home around the kitchen table, he picked the very prettiest rose out of the bunch, and passed it to the girls, letting each one of them smell it and handle it. Then he put the handled rose, somewhat misused, back into the vase.

After fluffing the flowers with his hands, he passed the roses around and told each daughter to take the rose she wanted. When the vase had made the circle from girl to girl, the father called the girl’s attention to the single rose remaining. It was the first passed around which all the girls had handled — the misused one was left.

The father made his point well.

Good boys, like good girls, are not interested in exploited “roses” when they are looking for a mate for life. If his daughters intended to find a good man to be their husband, they need not expect a godly man to be interested in them if they allowed themselves to be handled and misused morally.

When girls are promiscuous, immoral with the boys they date, in the end, the good and morally upright young man, the young man who will make a good husband, will not be interested in them as a wife.

Let’s think about it!

ASK AUNT MARY-READING THE BIBLE

July 28th, 2011 | By admin

This article was taken from www.mbriley.preachersfiles.com. The advice is wonderful. Each person can take it and use it easily. It’s hard for me to find time to read as much as I want to, but this narrows it down to where I can get it done. Enjoy!

The following are some suggestions as to how we can find the time to read the Bible:

1) Place a Bible under our pillow to read each night before we go to sleep.

2) Wake up fifteen minutes earlier each morning.

3) Turn off the TV at 8:00 p.m. each night and read the Scriptures to ourselves and to our children.

4) Read a few verses at mealtime when the family is together.

5) Talk less to have a few more minutes to read (James 1:19).

6) Carry a Bible in our purse or pocket, to read while waiting in a doctor’s office.

7) Take a Bible on trips and read on an airplane or in a hotel (Acts 20:20).

Let’s not just own a Bible — let’s read it! (Revelation 1:3).

The Daily Christian Chore Schedule

July 27th, 2011 | By admin

My husband found this today, and I thought it would be useful for teens as well. When I was about five years old, my mother taught me to embroidery. One of the first things I did was a set of tea towels with the days of the week on them. This article brought back memories and taught me something also.

The following daily Christian chore schedule and related prayer from an unknown author, is designed to motivate us to greater service in doing the Lord’s will: (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY-CUTE BOYS

July 26th, 2011 | By admin

Dear Aunt Mary,

There is the cutest boy in my school, and I would love to date him. I’m not fat or ugly, just common looking, but he dates the really cute girls. What can I do? Unhappy

Dear Unhappy,

Cute boys have been the standard for dating since the beginning of time. Each girl wanted the cutest boy. But should we measure a boy by his looks? My mama always told me, “Beauty is only skin deep.” How true that is. As Christians, we need to look at the inner man or boy.

A boy may be cute, but what are his morals? Is he kind, courteous, pleasant to be around, and most of all, a Christian. I’m a true believer in dating Christians. Maybe he runs with the wrong crowd and is not nice to the girls he dates. Would you want to risk the chance of falling in love with him, and spending the rest of your life with him? He may turn out to be someone you wish you had never married and your life would be miserable.

WORTHLESS

July 25th, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

Last night, Sunday, the area congregations in Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois began an area wide gospel meeting. The speaker is Allan Webster and he is a marvelous speaker. There were 1,506 souls in attendance last night. Singing is a cappella, and that many voices were amazing. If you are in the area of Paducah, KY, come to the Carson Center Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26 at 6:15 for a time of song, and at 7: p.m. for worship.

Last night Allan’s lesson was about worthlessness. As I listened, I thought about how worthless I felt as a teen. I am sure a lot of the teens today feel the same way. By reading the newspaper and listening to the news on television, it seems to be the same today. You can see the expressions on the faces of many teens and know this is true.

One thing to remember is that you are loved by God. He made you in his likeness. In Psalm 139:14-15, the psalmist says, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works, and that my soul know very well.” That gives me encouragement. (more…)

LOOKING FOR LOVE

July 22nd, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

There is a country song that says, “Looking for love in all the wrong places. . .” From reading all the comments that come in on the website, I feel that is a true statement. Most people are looking for love in all the wrong places. They look for it in drugs, alcohol, sex, cars, and any number of other places.

True love is from God. The best place to find love is in the Bible. John 3:16 is a verse we all have quoted from childhood. “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That is the ultimate love.

So many people have not been loved by their parents, that they want to find it someplace else. They turn to other people and other things to find love. It’s not there. People will abuse you and turn away from you. Drugs and alcohol only last for a short time and then you are back to where you started. (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY-CHRISTIAN BOYFRIENDS

July 21st, 2011 | By admin

Aunt Mary, where can I go to find a Christian boyfriend? The boys at church are more like brothers.

That’s a good question, and I’ve had experience with that! Sometimes it’s hard to find someone at church. I grew up in a small congregation and there were three or four boys that I would have dated. It’s hard for a girl to look at a guy as a boyfriend when you have spent most of your childhood with. You know more about him than you want to think about.

This is what I would suggest. When there is a youth activity with another congregation, go. There may be a boy there that is looking for a good Christian girl.  (more…)

GOOD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE- WIDOW OF ZARAPHATH

July 20th, 2011 | By admin

We do not know this woman’s name, but in 1 Kings 17:9-16, we learn a lot about her. She was caring, and although a Gentile, she knew something about God.

Let me paraphrase the story. The Lord told Elijah to go to the city of Zaraphath in Sidon, He told Elijah that there was a woman there, a widow, who would provide for him. When he came to the gates of the city, a woman was gathering sticks. Elijah asked her for water. (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY-TEMPTATIONS

July 19th, 2011 | By admin

We are all faced with temptations every day of our lives. Some of the temptations are major and some are not. What do you do when you are faced with temptations? Maybe I can help.

The way I overcome a lot of temptations is ask the question, “Would Jesus do this?” Then I would think about what He would think of me if I did the thing. If I felt uncomfortable to think that Jesus saw me, I knew it was wrong. Jesus is with us each second of the day. We can’t see Him, but we know He is watching. We should be careful what we do.  (more…)

WHO IS YOUR GOD?

July 18th, 2011 | By admin

In the world today, there are many gods people worship. I find in Genesis 1 that God, the only true god, made the earth and everything in it. He did have help, because in verse 26, God says “let US make man in Our image.”

The word us is plural, so who was the US? If you are a student of the Bible, you know the “us” was Christ and the Holy Spirit. Why didn’t God tell us in that first chapter of the Bible? Don’t know, but He had a plan. (more…)
