ASK AUNT MARY-NOAH

August 31st, 2011 | By admin

We’ve all sat through Sunday School classes and listened to the story about Noah. We know he built an ark and put every animal in the ark, both male and female. We know his wife, sons, and their wives entered the ark with him. Then came the flood. That’s good that we know that much, but let’s see if we can learn anything more about Noah.

In Genesis 2:4-6, we learn that before any plants of any kind were in the earth, there was no rain. A mist covered the earth and that was how the plants got their moisture. Remember that, because it is very important. (more…)

WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MARRIAGE

August 29th, 2011 | By admin

When we watch TV news, read the paper, or some other news media we see that marriage is under attack. This has continued to grow with each passing year. The same sex marriage advocates are trying to redefine marriage?

But as a Christian young lady and young man what should I know about marriage? From Genesis we learn that God created male and female. The female was created for a helpmeet for man. Nothing is said about God making a man for a man or a woman for a woman.

Adam and Eva were made in the image of God and for the purpose of baring children. Without male and female there would be no reproduction of other human beings. The Shakers are a good example of what happens when you do not marry.

Let’s look to the Bible for a pattern for marriage. Thayer defines the word “pattern” as it appears in our New Testament, “in a technical sense, the pattern in conformity to which a thing must be made” (p. 632). Please note the imperative “must.” When we speak of the biblical pattern for a thing, we have no option other than to accept and apply what the Scriptures say. To say that there is a biblical pattern for marriage is to say that it is God who has determined how marriage ought to be. (more…)

FAITH

When tragedy strikes most everyone turns to God. We ask God why did this happen to us? Why not? We are no different than the person sitting beside us. It could have happened to them, but God has a plan.

Tragedy should bring strength and faith in the Lord. It should bind us closer to Him, but so many times it doesn’t. We let our faith waver after the storms of life are past. That’s when we need to hold on to God the strongest, after we realize that God carried us through this.  (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY-CHEATING

August 24th, 2011 | By admin

School has either started or is about to start, and this is a good time to talk about cheating. Most people in the world today think it’s okay to cheat a little. They cheat on their Income Tax, Congress cheats on us by passing a mass of bills in one bill and they think we won’t notice. Is that right? I don’t think so, it is being dishonest.

Most kids in school cheat sometime or another. They peek a look at someone’s test paper and see the answer they have is not like the other person’s. They change their answer and guess what, they had the right answer to begin with. I’ve seen that happen before.  (more…)

SHOULD I REALLY SAY THAT?????

Although I am a little older than most of the people on Facebook, I still enjoy it.  I love being able to reconnect with old friends from high school or those with whom I have come in contact at different times in my life.  I also enjoy being friends with some of the young people at our congregation and several from other congregations.  There is one thing, however, that is very disturbing to me and I would like to share it with you here.  I hope you will remember that when you love someone you help them see those wrongs they may have in their life.  I love young Christian women and want them to live in a way that is becoming to Christ. NEWTON’S MODEL

August 19th, 2011 | By admin

Today our young people are being bombarded with several different ideas as to how the earth and even humans beings came about. If you doubt this statement to be true just take a look at the science books that are being used in our public schools. I would like to share an article taken from theFredericktown Church of Christ newspaper article called:

Newton’s Model

“The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Ps. 14:1).

Recently I read something of interest about Sir Isaac Newton (a world-renowned scientist and philosopher who lived from 1642 to 1747).  Newton(who was perhaps best known for his universal gravitation theory and his discovering of the three laws of motion) once had an exact replica of our solar system made in miniature.  At its center was a large golden ball representing the sun, and revolving around it were small spheres attached at the ends of rods of varying lengths representing Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and the other planets.  These were all geared together by cogs and belts to make them move around the “sun” in perfect harmony.  (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY-CONVINCED OR CONVICTED

August 17th, 2011 | By admin

Convinced and convicted look similar. They have the same first four letters and the same last two letters, but the letters in the middle make a difference. Convinced is to be assured, proved, persuaded that something is true. Convicted is to believe, to have faith, to have fervor that something is true. (more…)

WHAT ARE YOU FISHING FOR?

by a Teenage Christian Girl

As Christian teenagers there are many temptations that we go through. High school is a tough environment to be in every day. It is full of worldly people, and it is hard not to want to fit it with everyone. Christ tells us that we are to be in the world but not of the world. One way we can not be “of” the world is by the way we dress. (more…)

FLY CATCHER

by Tim Hall

Those who have watched Major League Baseball games have seen it often: A foul ball or a home run ball goes into the stands, and fans scramble to recover it.  Unlike the NFL, which demands that stray footballs be returned, MLB allows fans to keep baseballs as souvenirs.  You’ll never find a stray baseball among the bleachers, for they are highly prized by those who attend the games. THE OTHER STORY

The article Monday about the Poolside Parable was very encouraging. A groom who waited for his bride after a terrible accident leaving her legs paralyzed. What a wonderful show of love! (more…)
