GREETING OF UNBORN JOHN TO UNBORN JESUS

January 29th, 2012 | By admin

by Maxie Fortner

Have you ever tried locusts and honey? Nah, not the locusts…but kids in some countries would. You know of course that the locusts and honey were eaten by John who knew Jesus even before he was born. In Luke’s account of the births of John and of Jesus, he tells of Mary going to visit John’s mother, Elizabeth who was her cousin. Elizabeth was much, much older but she was pregnant, too, and soooo happy that God had allowed her body to conceive at last. When Mary greeted her, the baby inside Elizabeth jumped in recognition, also, beginning his work, even before the birth, of declaring the son of God!! Both mothers in waiting knew they were FAVORED by God and were thrilled by it. Both Zacharias and Joseph knew that they had been chosen to help raise the boys for the work God had planned for their adult lives.  (more…)

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that seemed hopeless – that all around you are people that care for nothing at all, and seem like they never well? Sometimes it’s hard to see the light – and be the light, for that matter! (more…)

GROWING THROUGH GRUMBLING

I was reading an article by a friend-of-a-friend about what a blessing it is to be a preacher’s wife – and I must say I heartily agree! Not only do I love being married to Patrick because he himself is a wonderful man, but being a preacher’s wife is great because I have been pushed to grow.

Ever hated it how people expect things of you, criticize you, and grumble about you?

It is true that as a preacher’s wife (or as someone who is a part of any part of a preacher’s/ elder’s/ church leader’s family very often people have expectations that we will somehow be better, more spiritual and more involved than everyone else in the congregation, and that we can never show any signs of weakness, make any bad decisions, or say anything out of line. ASK AUNT MARY– AM I REALLY SAVED?

January 18th, 2012 | By admin

It’s sad, but today people will tell you many ways to be saved. Most say if you believe, you are saved. It’s funny, but the Bible tells us something entirely different to do. So, what do you believe? Do you believe the Bible, or do you believe what man says? For me, I believe the Bible. Let’s look at a few things.

On our road to Christianity, we must first hear the Word of God. We find that in Romans 10:17. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” That is so simple. We must first hear the Word. I can’t tell you what is in a book if I have not read it, or heard someone read it to me. I can turn to the back cover and read the blob about the book, but that’s not reading the book. The apostles taught the Word as we see it today. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the Bible. We need to hear it from someone, or read it ourselves. Do not take the word of someone else as to what the Bible says. Search it out. Search the scriptures during the sermon to make sure the preacher is saying the same thing the Bible says. (more…)

STRENGTH UNDER CONTROL

I just love the way God talks about women in the Bible, and the way God has designed for women to be treated and respected! In God’s eyes we are precious, are to be respected in our marriages, and have a beautiful role to play out in our lives. As the following verses depict:

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” Ephesians 5:25 (more…)

TELL THE DEVIL NO TODAY

January 12th, 2012 | By admin

Tell the devil today, he is a liar! He will not take your joy, your peace, or disturb your spirit.• Tell him he cannot sleep in
your bed; there’s not enough cover.
• Tell him he cannot sit in your chair, you will not give him a cushion of comfort.•

Tell him he can’t touch your body; It’s covered by the blood of Jesus!

Tell him he cannot enter your home; the locks have been changed. (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY – TATTOOS AND PIERCING

January 4th, 2012 | By admin

Today when we walk down the street, or in the mall, we see a myriad of tattoos. How does it make you feel to see someone whose bodies are tattooed all over? It sickens many people. It is not pretty, nor does it make you look cool.

Leviticus 19:28 says, “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, not tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.” That tells me it is wrong to mark and pierce your body. The Jews were forbidden to tattoo. We are made in God’s image. Does God have tattoos? I don’t think so. (more…)

PROVERBS 1:10

In 1980, Ronald Reagan was campaigning for president of the US. Mrs. Reagan needed a platform for the work she would do, and she saw a lot of young people on drugs while she was campaigning with her husband. One you lady asked her what she should do if someone offered her drugs. Mrs. Reagan’s reply was, “Just say no.” That became her platform, and it became a slogan over the whole country. No to drugs.

In Proverbs 1:10, we have a similar statement. “My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.” That does pretty much explain itself. If someone offers you drugs, alcohol, sex, or anything you know is wrong, say no! That’s hard to do with peer pressure what it is today in high school and college. It’s easy to be enticed into sin. You look so cool with that cigarette, or the beer, or the pot, or whatever. Well, you don’t look cool at all.

When you take a drink of beer, you are setting yourself up for an addiction. The same is with drugs. It is not cool. Really, it’s stupid. Some of the things you do when you are under the influence can endanger your life and others. Things can happen that will change your life forever. You could be in a car wreck and killed, or someone else could be killed or mangled for life.

If you are enticed to have sex with someone, you could get a disease or become pregnant. Then you have another life to think about. Aborting the baby is murder. So many women today feel the guilt from abortion. Then there is the disease. You do not want to be faced with that kind of a life.

Let me be honest with you. You will be laughed at, ridiculed, and ignored by some people. They are not the cool people. They are not your friends. Someone who comments the above sins, like to have company with like people. They want to drag you down to their world. They want to pull you through the mud of sins. Don’t do it! Just say no!

No one every gets drunk by not drinking, or no one every gets high on drugs by not using. It’s easier to keep yourself pure when you don’t do these things.
