ASK AUNT MARY – TATTOOS AND PIERCING

January 4th, 2012 | By admin

Today when we walk down the street, or in the mall, we see a myriad of tattoos. How does it make you feel to see someone whose bodies are tattooed all over? It sickens many people. It is not pretty, nor does it make you look cool.

Leviticus 19:28 says, “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, not tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.” That tells me it is wrong to mark and pierce your body. The Jews were forbidden to tattoo. We are made in God’s image. Does God have tattoos? I don’t think so.

I’ve heard many older people say they wish they had never had a tattoo on their body. They regret having it done. Some businesses even have you cover your tattoos. They know that the public is disgusted to see them.

The tools they use are not always sanitary. Think about being cut on with a tool that someone else was cut on, and maybe they had aids, or some other  communicable disease. Do you really want to take that chance? If the instruments are not clean, you are risking an infection that can take your life. It’s a big risk to take. We don’t hear about a lot of things like this, but I am sure there are many people who are infected by a germ, or a disease.

If we are made in God’s image, we should want to keep our bodies pure. Pure means perfect, without blemish. Can your body be that perfect with markings? I don’t think so. You may say, “It’s cool. Everybody is doing it.” You may think it is cool and you want to follow the crowd. Watch where that crowd goes. If the crowd falls off a cliff to their death, would you follow them? I don’t think so.

Before you make a decision that will be on your body for the remainder of your life, talk to your parents about it. Talk to someone older who knows about the subject. Don’t be carried away by your friends to do something you will regret later in life. Think long and hard before you make that decision.

Piercing has been around for ever. You see pictures of Egyptians with pierced earrings in their ears. That’s not the piercing I’m talking about. There are other piercings through out the body that can become infected if not cleaned properly. Why pierce a place on your body that no one can see? Why pierce a place that you know has to be cleaned daily in a proper fashion? Why go through the pain of piercing other than your ears? Are you trying to make a statement? If you are it can be made in other ways than piercing your whole face and body.

If you want to make a statement about your body, eat well, get exercise, look fresh and clean, and be a good example to others.
