In my school, we are taught evolution and atheism. How can people believe that there is no God? A Christian

Dear Christian,

There are some advantages to being raised in the south, especially the Bible Belt. The beliefs in God run strong and deep in that particular part of the United States. We are raised to be God fearing, Bible thumping, and believers. God is first in our lives, next comes the home, and the country comes last. That’s the way people are brought up in the south. 

What happens to make someone, when they have been taught to love God, become an atheist? From what I read, they say they don’t see any evidence of God. If God did not create the earth and everything in it, how did it come about?

One cell cannot create all that we see. God had to create it. Our body mechanism could only come from God. When we take a breath, oxygen goes through our body. If we don’t breath deep, our oxygen level will go down. That’s why after surgery, we are told to breathe deeply. We heal better with the right amount of oxygen in our blood stream.

When I look outside my window, I see rain, green grass, leaves blowing from trees, and many other things. Without the infinite mind of God, none of this could happen. I know God is there. I can see His movements in the wind and the rain. He gives us what we need, and He knows what we need.

In the United States, only 4% of the population are professed atheists. That is not very many, but the 4% has changed several laws. We no longer teach creation in the classroom. They want to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance and take “In God We Trust” off of our money. Let’s look a little at the history or worship.

When God created the earth in Genesis 1, we began to read about worship to God. Cain and Able brought sacrifices to God. Even people who did not know God, worshiped something. All through the Old Testament and New Testament, we read of worshipers. Some were to idols, but most were to the true living God.

When Paul went to Athens, in Acts 17, he found all of their gods. To be sure no Gods were left out, they had built an alter to an “UNKNOWN GOD” in verse 23 of that chapter. Even the Greeks knew there was a higher being.

Atheism began in the 1500’s. That is not a very long time when you think about it. For six or seven thousand years, people worshiped a higher being. Why did it take so long for someone to imagine that there was no Higher Being?

As Christians, we need to stand up for what is right. That is the Bible. God’s teaching is correct. Our country was founded on God. Our forefathers were believers of a Higher Being. There is no foundation in the beliefs of atheism.
