ASK AUNT MARY- GETTING SEXY

June 20th, 2012 | By admin

There’s a commercial on HGTV about when summer comes, the clothes come off, and everyone gets sexy. Is that what everyone thinks? Well, I don’t, and a lot of other people don’t. That is what people are trying to make girls think. What is so important about getting sexy and parading up and down the streets with very little clothes on? We’ve talked about this before, and it does increase a man’s desire for sex.

Every time I go to a wedding I’m appalled at how many young women come with less and less clothes on. They seem to want to outdo the bride. Maybe I’m old fashioned, and some of you will say I am, but it’s the only place I can go outside of a honky-tonk that I see so much skin. It’s even spilling over to church services. Girls, don’t go along with the crowd. Cover yourself up.

Mothers, why do you let your daughters go out like this? You do have some control over them. You still can tell them this is not appropriate. You still can say no. Why are you letting your daughters display their bodies in this way? Are we forgetting what modesty is all about? It’s not for older women, it is also for younger girls and teenagers. 1 Timothy 2:9-10 says, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.”  (more…)

WHAT GOD HATES

March 12th, 2012 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

We think of God as a God of love but forget that He hates sin. In Proverbs 6:16-19, Solomon gives us a list of seven things that God hates. “These six things the Lord hates, Yes seven are an abomination to Him. A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift to running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”

That almost covers everything. We’ll see later some other things God hates. Let’s look at these seven right now. (more…)

DANCING

November 14th, 2011 | By admin

By Katt Anderson

A reader asked if dancing was wrong. They saw nothing wrong with it. Well, according to the Bible, it is wrong for a man and a woman to dance. Please listen to what I have to say. (more…)

WHAT ABOUT MORALS?

November 11th, 2011 | By admin

By Katt Anderson

This past week our morals have been challenged. The firing of Joe Paterno has caused a lot of talk on the news. Have our morals been challenged by the firing of a winning coach, instead of looking at the morals of his assistant coach? Does winning a football game mean more than the harming of these precious boys?

Mr. Paterno knew about Jerry Sandusky’s misbehavior, but did nothing. Instead, he allowed eight boys to be molested by this man. Now the students are in a roar because they fired Paterno. I’m glad they did. Someone like that does not need to be in the spotlight.

When I worked, and was over a department, it was my job to make decisions about an employee who was doing wrong. The editor of the newspaper did not fire a person, I did. Times have not changed that much. It was still Paterno’s job to see that Sandusky was punished.

What does the Bible say about this? In James 1:14, 15, it says, “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” When we sin, we are dead to Christ. If we are constantly sinning, we are drawn away for God.

The kind of behavior that Mr. Sandusky portrayed is sin. He saw a boy in the shower, and he attacked him. It sickens me to think of what that child went through. What happened will always be in the boy’s memory for the rest of his life.

What has happened to the morals of the students who are outraged that Paterno was fired? Have we as parents failed the young people of today? When did winning become more important that doing what was right? This is beyond me. I cannot comprehend how this could be good. Mr. Paterno should have fought for those boys by making sure Mr. Sandusky was fired. It doesn’t matter if he was a great assistant coach, he did wrong.

Things go on today that are not right. If you see something that is not right, even if it will make you look bad, please report it. Don’t let others be hurt by the actions of one person. Raping a boy in the shower is as wrong as raping a woman in her bedroom. It is a sin, and it should be reported. I admire the person that brought this to light. I know they will suffer, but they are a hero in my book.

ASK AUNT MARY-DATE RAPE

November 9th, 2011 | By admin

Why talk about date rape? Because it happens, and girls need to be aware of it.

Let’s look at this in a scenario. Suppose the cutest boy in school asks you out for a date. You’ve heard some of the girls talk. You know one thing he does on a date is to have sex. Just because you’re a Christian will make a difference, you think. Probably not. It will be a bigger conquest for him. If he can talk you into doing something that is not right, he will look bigger in the eyes of the other boys. (more…)

A CHRISTIAN AND ALOCHOL

October 17th, 2011 | By admin

by Katt Anderson

A friend of mine related to a group of us Saturday that she was an alcoholic. I never suspected that she drank at all. She told us how she began going down that road, and I’d like to share it with you. It was so simple and anyone of us could fall in the same hole.

She began drinking in college. Doesn’t that sound familiar? She was the oldest of nine children. When she started college, she felt free and began partying. The longer she partied, the more she drank. Her grades plummeted almost to the bottom. Her parents were disappointed. She returned to school with a determination to keep her grades up, but she continued to party. Her grades did stay up at a 3.0 average. (more…)

GOSSIP

August 3rd, 2011 | By admin

Have you ever played the game “Telephone?” Do you remember what happened? Usually, whatever sentence the group started with was nowhere near the same thing whispered in the last person’s ear. Somewhere along the line, someone whispered a word and the next person mistook it for something else. How often do we do this and gossip without knowing it? Just like “telephone,” we sometimes pass along information we think we heard from a reliable source. Sometimes, though, we just pass along information we know isn’t true. How sad is that? That we, can be so starved for a small bit of attention that we will fabricate something completely false just to get a minute or two in the limelight. I want to suggest to you that gossip is not just “bad” in the general sense of the word, but it is also a sin. (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY-TOBACCO/ALOCHOL

July 14th, 2011 | By admin

Today, I want to talk about tobacco and alcohol. Below are listed the three major factors of death in the United States. Tobacco and Alcohol rank first and second.

Tobacco (Average 1990 – 94):……………..   430,700(1)

Alcohol (1996): ………………………………………  110,640 (2)

We all know tobacco has been a killer for years. In 2005, the CDC reported 23% of high school students were smokers. That rose from 21.9% in 2003. Another interesting fact is that 80% of all smokers started before they were 18 years old. Each day, approximately 3,900 teens under 18, begin to smoke. Of that number, 1,500 will become regular smokers. That’s pretty impressive to me. (more…)

ASK AUNT MARY, HOMOSEXUALITY

June 21st, 2011 | By admin

A lot of teens and adults, claim they are homosexual. Some will even say they were born that way. Some do it to be cool. Some want to do it to be different. Let me tell you, you are not born that way, it is not cool, and it’s not good to be that different.

When the world was created, God created man and woman. Not man and man or woman and woman. Genesis 1:26-27, it says, “…male and female He created them.” God said it was good after he created them. If he thought homosexuality was good, why didn’t he create two males or two females. He knew a man and a woman could procreate.

I hate to tell you this, but a homosexual is not born that way. They are taught. There are people out there that love to do evil and love to lure people into their web. Don’t let them tell you it’s all right. Let me give you some examples of what the Bible says.

God gave Moses the Law in Leviticus 18. In verse 22, it says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a female. It is an abomination.” That means even in the Old Testament it was wrong, a sin, an abomination, the worse. In Genesis 19:5, Lot had encountered homosexuals in Sodom (that’s where the term sodomy came from). The angels had come to Sodom to get Lot and his family out. That night, the men of the city asked Lot to bring the men/angels out so they should know them carnally.

These are two examples in the Old Testament. They were also punished if they were caught committing homosexuality. We go again to Leviticus when the Law was given from God. In verse 13, “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” It was such a horrible sin that God wanted to get rid of it by putting them to death. (more…)
